About Me

Hello, my name is Lindsey and this is my website. In posts and on the web I go by "Zee," both for anonymity's sake and also because I like the nickname. I never had a nickname growing up and when an old boyfriend gave me this one, it stuck. I currently reside in Portland, OR and work for a public relations agency here in town. I'm also studying Web design online in my "spare" time.

I was born here in Portland in August 1975. That makes me 32 at the time of this writing (November 2007). I grew up well-loved and well-cared for, with fairly minimal trauma, by parents and a family I would not trade for anything in the world.

My passions include music (primarily piano, though I play flute as well), all things dog, writing, cooking and knitting. As a result, these are the main categories included in my blog. In the past I've been a runner, a drinker, a girlfriend, a bitch and an idiot. I'm sure I am still a couple of those things at various times. Right now though, I'm in recovery, single and happy. I share my life and home with a Yorkshire Terrier named Rennie. I run on occasion. I do a lot of praying to a higher power I don't have much grasp of. I have Multiple Sclerosis, which sucks. I can sing all of "Bruces' Philosopher's Song" from memory and on key without benefit of accompaniment.

Most importantly though, I am a human being, with all the rights, privileges and neuroses that involves. This blog is representative of those and also helps me sort through the more vexing of issues and frustrations of day-to-day life. However, despite an often-overwhelming desire to write about them, you will not find any discussion of my job or clients on this blog. Discussion of my parents and/or family occasionally crops up, as do blurbs about friends but, having learned a very valuable lesson (read on!) I am very careful with what I write about and how I present it. Names are often changed to protect the innocent and/or the guilty.

With all that said, I hope you enjoy reading and find something here that keeps you coming back. Comments are enabled (immediate publishing if you sign in with TypeKey), so please do leave your thoughts if you feel so moved. I would love to hear from you.

About 'Behind Blue Eyes'

My blogging life began in Boston in October 2004. I'd just moved to Boston from Portland, OR - my home for the preceding 28 years - to take a job doing public relations and marketing for a company that made a very specific kind of high-end musical instrument. As my previous job had been in PR (for an agency in Portland) and I'd majored in music during my undergrad years, this seemed like a beautiful combination of my interests and skills.

I started the blog, "Zee's Boston Musings," over at Blogger.com, to chronicle my adventures in Boston and to keep friends and family back home up to date. Unfortunately, being as it was my first blogging experience, I was not terribly mindful of a variety of things, the most important of which was that nothing posted on the Internet is "anonymous." I don't care how careful you are, it can almost always be tracked back to you in some way.

I'll not go into excruciating detail here, but I will say that saying nasty things on your blog about your housemates is probably not the best way to foster harmony in the home. (I do now have a lot of regrets about how I handled things in Boston; my only excuse is that I just wasn't very aware and not very happy.)

Anyway, once my Blogger journal was sent anonymously to a couple of my co-workers, I pulled it down. Some of the posts were spared, however, and you can find some of my favorites by clicking here or by choosing "Boston" from the category drop-down box on my sidebar.

Shortly after that I created a new blog using Movable Type, "Rathnait's Playground." Rathnait's Playground (more info here on why it was called that) was around for quite a while, until I started thinking recently about updating the design and my website as a whole. Thus, 'Behind Blue Eyes', the third iteration of my blog, was born. While "Behind Blue Eyes" is a well-known song by The Who and one of which I'm actually rather fond, the blog is not named after it. My hope in changing the title was to make it a bit more descriptive, a bit more personal and also a bit less obtuse: I have blue eyes, and the blog is my place to share what, quite literally, is going on behind them.

The majority of posts will be categorized under "daily." Those that were written while I was in Boston or that discuss my adventures there will also be tagged with the "Boston" category. The "Miss Yorkie Princess" category focuses primarily on Rennie, my Yorkshire Terrier, but also includes posts about pets, other people's dogs and dogs in general. (I like dogs.) The rest of the categories should be fairly self-explanatory. The main category pages each have their own customized sidebar with pertinent links and other interesting stuff.

I hope you enjoy the site! If you want to contact me, click on the "Contact" link up in the header. I look forward to hearing from you!
