Summer Horrors
So it is June 2, and today I turned on the heat. I was COLD, people. And I'd already put on a sweater and socks and my fingers were freezing.
JUNE SECOND.
We are smack in the middle of spring and barreling towards summer, and have had .... lessee ... 3 days of weather in the last two months that could be called summer-like.
Yeah, I know it's Portland. I KNOW that. But usually, in Portland in June, the weather is pleasant. It's in the 70s and the sun is shining and the clouds are not out. And most importantly, I don't have to turn on the heat. Because it doesn't typically get below 50 outside.
The sun did peek through the clouds a bit earlier today, around 1:30, but it has hidden itself again and I'm sitting here trying to motivate myself to get off the couch and get some exercise.
Oh yes, I live a wonderfully exciting life!!
Actually, a couple fun things happening this week:
1) My baby sister graduates from high school on Wednesday. So we are gathering to eat fried chicken and potato salad (because nothing says congratulations like fried animal parts! YUM...) and caravanning over to the place where the graduation is being held. I still remember MY high school graduation fairly clearly; my baby sister was just THREE years old then. So I'm feeling a bit old. And she's not a baby anymore. But that happens to most of us. The aging, I mean.
2) My aunt and uncle from New York are in Portland later this week for a visit! I haven't seen them since my 30th birthday, when Dad and I stopped there for a couple days on our trip west from Boston to Portland. They were always welcoming and hospitable and invited me to visit for various holidays when I was in Boston and, frankly, I miss being closer to them. They are good, good people and I really enjoyed the time I spent with them. So they are here as part of a business trip, and we'll be getting together Thursday evening for dinner somewhere. Hopefully said dinner will involve Caesar salad. Because I love me some Caesar salad.
Thus endeth the rambling. And none too soon, because Miss Yorkie Princess has been insisting for the last 18 minutes that DAMMIT, MOM, IT'S DINNER TIME. I'm off to serve my master....

A REAL baby sister...I mean, I was the youngest of three girls, but the next in line was only 4 years older than me...so of course, I resented being called the "baby sister". But there you go! You have a REAL one...happy visits and happy graduation days to all.
