Time to Read
So I'm on vacation this week, a well-earned, much-needed bit of time off to recover from the Week From Hell I had in early March. (Aside: I now believe that, had my thyroid been mostly normal, said week might have been much more easily dealt with. At a minimum, I'd have been able to function without getting snippy at my clients... But I digress...)
Anyway, so: I'm on vacation. And I'm not actually going anywhere because there are tons of things around the house I wanted to tackle.
But you know what? It turns out, when I don't have to work 40+ hours a week, I have time - and more importantly, energy - to do stuff! And read books! And play with the dog! And practice the piano!
It's shocking, really. Just think how much we'd all get done and how organized we'd all be if we only had to work part time?!
So, since Friday morning, I have done the following:
- Used Better Homes & Gardens' Arrange-a-Room program to re-arrange my living/dining room.
- Called Comcast, actually got a competent customer service rep (!) on the line, and scheduled them to come put in a new cable outlet so I can move my TV to its new home.
- Went to Target, bought some shelves, an ironing board holder, a couple plastic carts and other orgnizational items.
- Put said items together.
- Cleaned out my storage locker, threw away unneeded garbage.
- Rearranged my bedroom and office closets.
- Mounted ironing board holder on the wall.
- Moved first aid and extra bathroom supplies out of bathroom cupboards and into the hall linen closet.
- Did 6 loads of laundry, including all bed linens.
- Practiced the piano.
- Finished (re)reading Pride & Prejudice and began (rereading) Sense & Sensibility.
Next up?
- Bathe Rennie.
- Go to Goodwill, drop off give-away items.
- Return ill-fitting raincoats I bought for Rennie to PetSmart. (Yes, you read that right. Don't ask about the cute little sun-dress I got her that also didn't fit!)
- Go to local consignment shop, sell several pairs of (nearly new) shoes and a pair of jeans I've only worn once because they fit weird. (This despite the fact that I tried them on before buying them. Go figure. :-P )
- Cruise the racks at said consignment shop; try to find some nice slacks for trip to Pittsburgh.
- Go through filing cabinets and get rid of stuff I truly don't need.
- Buy items needed to create a Square Foot Garden.
- Pack and get ready for trip to Pittsburgh!
So I have quite the week ahead of me; not sure how much of those items I'm actually going to get done, but I'm looking forward to giving it a try. A few of those things I could knock out in one quick trip: it's just a matter of whether to actually get motivated to do that or sit around and continue reading a book. I'm not sure why, but just sitting and reading novels feels like the most luxurious thing ever. Particularly with a cup of coffee and a nice little cozy blanket wrapped around me. I hope to get a few more things done AND some more reading in. This will make for a great vacation indeed!
