Houseguests!
So I've got a household of visitors this weekend. My mom's dog Gracie arrived Thursday afternoon - much to Rennie's chagrin - to stay with us until Tuesday afternoon. This dog, she likes to be around people. A LOT. So much so that she starts whining incessantly if she's not getting the attention she thinks she deserves.
Thursday night she did fairly well, sleeping through the night and not making much noise at all. Last night, though, Miss Grace started whining around 1:30 am and, even with the trips outside at 1:30, 4:00 and 6:00 am, she didn't really stop with the whining until I got up around 7:30 for good. I'm considering letting her and Rennie both sleep on the bed tonight, just so I don't have to deal with listening to her!
We shall see how things work out tonight...
This morning, after checking out a new meeting (that began at 9 am but, you know, since I was already up and everything, thank you Gracie...), I picked up my kid sister, who's spending the night while our mom is out of town and her dad is off "being prepared" by boy scout activities with our brother.
I wasn't sure, when I offered to let her stay here, what we were going to do all weekend but we got lucky: my stepdad left me a check big enough that Miss Birdie (nickname, natch :) and I can go out for dinner tonight and if we're frugal enough, rent a movie! Because nothing augments quality time with siblings like free food and entertainment! Huzzah!
And tomorrow, after a breakfast of the yummy pecan cinnamon buns (those ones I made Monday and then froze) we're going to go find a relatively quiet place with a minimum of other cars so Birdie can practice driving. The last time I tried to teach someone to drive (a former boyfriend, about 10 years ago) I nearly lost my shit, on account of the car being a manual transmission: the guy ended up paying more attention to changing gears than he was to the traffic around him. I ended up calling the whole thing off because I nearly lost my life along with a few other things that might have been nice to keep - specifically, my sanity and also my patience. (And as those who know me know well, there is precious little of either of those things to begin with...)
Anyway, I'm hopeful that this driving lesson will go a bit more smoothly, since - for one - my car is an automatic. I can only hope.
And pray.
So it's looking to be a busy weekend, what with the cinnamon rolls and the Yorkie-wrangling and the not-too-expensive dinner and driving lessons with absolutely no dying occurring. Dying would be bad, especially now that I've figured out how to bake such yummy - and low calorie! - cinnamon rolls!!

So glad your weekend is going well, mine so far has been a semi bust, good luck finding a car-free zone for driving lessons!
