Go SOX! Yahoo!

Congrats to the 2007 World Champions, the Boston Red Sox!!! Wow, twice in the last five years. Of course, it's not quite as much fun as actually being in Boston, like I was last time they won, but it's still very, very cool.

It's been kind of a strange weekend. Much less busy, thankfully, than last weekend. Unfortunately, the lazier nature of this weekend had more to do with my nursing a migraine off and on throughout my two days off than it did with actual deliberate relaxation. Still, I managed to get some grocery shopping and laundry done, as well as go hear my friend Rob play cello with The Portland Cello Project.

Although it was a bit longer than I expected, the concert was really, really good. Who'd have thought 15 celli on stage at once would be so awesome!? They did a number of "alternative" pieces. For instance, they were joined on-stage by a hiphop group called HurtBird which - despite my general distaste for rap/hip-hop music - I really found interesting, along with arrangements of a Brandenberg Concerto (for 4 cellos and 2 more cellos), the jazz standard "Take Five" and a nifty tango by Astor Piazzola, complete with Argentine Tango dancers that reminded me that I need to get back to my second (or was it third?) love, partner-dancing.

And, actually, the concert also stirred my secretly-harbored desire to take up the cello. I mean, once I've dug myself out of debt and can afford to buy myself a cheap, plywood cello and take lessons! Don't get me wrong - I adore the piano and it will always be my priority, but I also love the way the cello sounds. But if I had my life to live over again, I think I'd choose to play the cello rather than the flute. But c'est la view, right? Still, the concert got me inspired to play some piano, so I did get to that this weekend as well!

And what's most odd is, I'm now nearly 10 years out from my music degree (the one where I had an emphasis on flute performance) and I still have no desire to play my flute. (Dear gawd, I've been out of college almost 10 years!!) Anyway, I have no way to account for this other than that I perhaps found an instrument that speaks to me in ways the flute never did? I'm not sure.

And, last but not least, this weekend I also discovered CoffeeBreakSpanish.com - thanks to Yogamum. CoffeeBreakSpanish.com is the website counterpart to the Coffee Break Spanish podcast that you can download and subscribe to through iTunes and it is, basically, a 15-minute podcast that teaches you a bit of Spanish in each episode. So far I've relearned a number of basic, easy phrases I already knew, but it's nice, sometimes, to go back to basics and practice things. Perhaps, if I get good enough at Spanish, I'll get started on Coffee Break French!

And that's it from me, folks - I'm staring down the barrel of a crazy week, so I'm headed to bed. Happy Monday! (Errr... or something?)
