Me, a business student? How very droll...
Yeah, apparently so. I went digging around the websites of a couple universities in my area this afternoon, looking for classes on topics I'm most interested in: web and database programming, network administration, that sort of thing. Turns out those kinds of topics live in the School of Business Administration. Silly me, I thought they'd have been in the department of Computer Science.
So. Now that my Web Design Diploma at the Art Institute Online is nearly completed I decided to figure out my next move. I'm absolutely taking a couple months off school: I'm tired and burned out and not at all interested in setting foot in another classroom at this point.
However, once I get caught up on sleep and after Christmas has come and gone, I'm sure I'll want to get my hand back in and continue with my learning - particularly as I feel like I'm heading, finally!, in the right direction. If I were to wait until then to apply it would be too late, so this afternoon I filled out an application for post-baccalaureate study to the university where I got my first degree, updated my Free Application for Federal Student Aid application with the school's code and will be dropping the application in the mail tomorrow!
I'm on my way, people, and I'm SO excited!!
The good news is that the business school at this university is pretty highly regarded. The bad news is that they are extremely strict when it comes to the order in which you take your classes. Which means, unfortunately, that I'll have to slog through some basic business classes before taking the ones I'm truly interested in. :-( Boo. But I suppose it'll be good for me, and considering how relevant these classes are to my current job, I'm sure I can find a way for my company to pay for at least a portion of the costs. And given how many credits I have in various subjects and my varied work experience, I'm hoping that the school will waive a few of the degree requirements...
We'll see, but for now all is well. (And now that I've spent some time goofing off on the Internet, I have to get back to the task at hand: completing my portfolio for my final class at AiO! Yahoo!)
