Things to do over the next 72 hours
Because it worked so well during the first session of this term, I went ahead and took three days off work at the end of this session in order to finish up my final project, as well as catch up on my sleep. My hope, of course, was that the majority of the project would be done by now and that I'd only have to spend part of today putting some finishing touches on the database. I had grand visions of then behaving as if I were one of those people who lounges around during the day because they either a) are independently wealthy and so don't need to work, b) are supported by daddy and thus don't need to work or c) are unemployed and not yet looking for work because unemployment doesn't run out for another 5 months yet!
Alas, things didn't exactly work out the way I'd hoped. I, uh, have only the barest minimum of requirements for my database created at present. But, you know, it kinda looks pretty! So I'm going to have to spend the next couple days buried in SQL queries, trying to get things to work. :-P
Still, I hope to get a few other things done, at least, during this extended weekend. I did manage to run some errands this afternoon as well as go see a naturopath. She put me on a bifidobacteria supplement ("15 billion organisms per serving guaranteed!", the bottle says) that's supposed to "balance" the flora in my gut (it made sense at the time...) She also (not surprisingly) recommended I get back on my no-dairy, no-egg, no-anything-else-I'm-allergic-to diet as that will further help balance my immune system. It all makes perfect sense, of course. Eating crap that my body doesn't like can't be helping my health conditions. It's just that, well, I really like cheese. And sour cream. And cream cheese. And Doritos!
And eating a diet that avoids dairy AND eggs is like trying to avoid breathing oxygen. OK, maybe it's not THAT extreme, but darned if it doesn't feel that way sometimes. It just seems that everything in the world has either dairy or eggs in it, and finding things that are both dairy/egg-free and fairly easy to create is challenging. Aside from a slab of meat or a carrot stick or even mashed potatoes (made with soy or rice milk), most things have at least one or the other as an ingredient.
So that shall start soon... just as soon as I eat up the Totino's Party Pizzas that are still in my freezer. :-) Maybe I need to set aside some time to mourn the loss of my favorite foods so I can really embrace learning to enjoy a new type of diet? That might do the trick. I also need to head over to Jen's site to see what kind of yummy vegan recipes/tips/sources I can hunt down. :-) Also, acupuncture appointment and follow-up naturopath appointment next week!
Hopefully all these measures will create some measure of improved health!? I can only hope. Thank heavens I'm not also allergic to wheat too! (Quick, knock wood!)
Anyway, so here, without further ado (and because I need to get back to creating my database interface) are some of the things I'm hoping to accomplish this weekend:
- Create search mechanisms for school database project. In lieu of that, create "canned" searches that meet minimum requirements for class. In lieu of that, beat self over head, repeatedly, with laptop until I stop caring.
- Give Rennie a bath. Because she is a stinky dog.
- Attempt to clip Rennie's toenails. In lieu of success in this endeavor, beat self over head, repeatedly, with a blunt object until I give up in despair.
- Attempt to dispose of stuffed dinosaur egg that Rennie has been carrying around for weeks. It started out looking all pristine and pretty. It is now slimy and dirty and de-squeekified. She has already destroyed one other egg but still has one left. (Considering I bought this toy for her a year and a half ago? Not bad... )
- Start spring cleaning. Mostly, this involves dragging out the vacuum cleaner and hunting down the myriad dust bunnies that seem to collect under the bed and the couch within seconds of my previous cleaning. It is also going to involve hosing down the garbage can (because it is nasty), de-cobwebbing various places in my home and mopping/scrubbing floors.
- Play the darn piano already!
Wow, doesn't my long weekend sound like a blast? Please excuse me while I go beat myself over the head some more... (Just as soon as I finish this school project. BAH!) :-P

Add to the list, visit with Mary & Patty, as my sis is in town to celebrate my mom's 26th anniversary on Sunday!!
Hope you get all your list of things to do done. I'm still flat hunting but hope to have that figured out by tomorrow morning (fingers crossed) if not all weekend will be spent hunting as well :(

it really isn't hard to avoid dairy and eggs once you are used it. most people eventually stop craving cheese (it may take like 6 months with zero cheese though). i used to love cheese but now i think it is disgusting and even if it somehow became animal-friendly and healthy i still wouldn't eat it.
isn't that no-knead bread egg and dairy free? that's something delicious you already know how to make!
good luck with all of your projects. we just gave our dog a bath, but she weighs 70 pounds. be grateful that washing rennie is a little easier than that!

i've toyed with the swank diet off and on, and am now considering going back to a vegetarian diet, as much from health concerns as for environmental concerns. i'll be interested to hear how your diet progresses.
