As if the rain weren't bad enough...
So yesterday afternoon, while I was napping, my mom called to report that her power was out and ask if I wanted to go out to dinner with her and the kids. And also, was my power out? Well, I think I kind of snapped at her because I was half-asleep, but my power (at that point) was still live and I was sleepy.
Just goes to show you that karma is, in fact, real because no sooner had I hung up the phone than my power went out. Brilliant.
So if I'd not already decided I was going to my company's Christmas party, the lack of power in the house pretty much sealed the deal. And the added bonus was that I got to take a bath, get dressed and put on make up by candlelight. ("Why yes, I did get dressed in the dark. Why do you ask!?")
Anyway, so I drove to the party last night in the wind and the rain and stayed until about 9:00, and then headed across the street to another restaurant with my friend Sandi and her husband and the three of us chatted for a while longer out of the loud and crowded party.
By the time I got home, the power was back on but the Internet, the cable and my telephone were all down. Harumph. I'd planned to do the last little bit of work on my school project and post it before going to bed, but that was unfortunately not to be. So I called Comcast, who told me that there was, indeed, an outage in my area but they'd have it all sorted out by morning. So, armed with that knowledge I went to sleep.
When I awoke this morning everything was still out. So I called Comcast again and the genius on the other end of the line proceeded to tell me, "Your modem is offline!"
Well, DUH. That's why I'm calling. It has been offline since last night. What I want to know is WHEN is it going to work again? She couldn't tell me and neither could the "service technician" that she pulled in to help. So I packed up and headed into the office for the second day in a row. [sigh]
So I'm posting this little blurb now (taking a little break!) because I may still not have any kind of access to the Internet when I get home. I hope the people at the Starbucks up the street don't mind my camping out there while I finish up school stuff and get it turned in!
Thank goodness I can still watch the stuff I've already taped on my Tivo!
[Update: The internet, cable and phone were all back on when I returned home! My final project is submitted and I just have a couple things left to do for school and I'll be DONE! for a few weeks.... Yahoo!]
