All You Gotta Do Is Ask
So yeah, I've been complaining a lot lately to anyone who'll listen about how I don't have a full-time job (whine) and my company won't hire me on permanently (whine whine) and they're not giving me enough work... and well, you get the picture. It turns out, though, that all I have to do is ask for what I want. Who knew!?
More on that in a minute... before we continue on with the whining the story, go visit Dooce and check out today's Daily Photo. There is more than one posted, and they are awesome.
OK, come back, dammit, I'm not finished yet!!
Wait, what were we talking about??
Oh right, work. So yesterday, after talking with another of the contractors that I regularly work with, I discovered that the company had hired a few other contractors for full time work. So I was steamed because, dammit, I could use more than 5 hours a week!, and sent (a very polite) email to one of the supervisors and an IM to my direct supervisor letting them both know that if they needed help I was available and more than willing to work.
Well, that was all it took. My direct supervisor assigned me a weird-hour, crazy-assignment, 5-day project (~25 hours worth of work!) on the spot. And by weird-ass crazy, I mean weird-ass crazy. I'm working from 5 to 10 p.m. every evening for the next 5 nights, looking for news about one of our clients in foreign language publications from the UK and France to Poland and the Czech Republic. Fortunately, I don't have to actually read these articles or write any kind of summary about them since they are in various and sundry languages I can't even pronounce, let alone understand.
But screw it, you know? It's WORK. They're paying me pretty well. And I don't have to even leave the house to get it down. Beautiful.
I'm still looking for other permanent jobs, though - because, well, this just isn't going to be enough in the long run. But for now, in keeping with the title of this post, I'm going to start asking for what I want:
If you want to offer me a job, please send me email at zee@rathnait.net. And if you just want to send me ridiculous (or even paltry) sums of money? You can donate through PayPal. Just click here. All funds received go to support my crazy and frequent urge to buy things I don't need the dog.

Sometimes, a little proactiveness goes a long way. Congrats on being rewarded for taking that initial step. You deserve good things.
So does the dog!
