Confession

I am inordinately fond of the mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC. I am aware that their methods of making this tasty side dish are... well... questionable and yet I still find myself yearning, on occasion, for the spuds and their lovely gravy dressing. I have been known, in times past, to go through the drive-thru for a large order only. No chicken, no biscuits, no cole slaw. Not even a drink. Just the spuds, which I happily consume immediately upon my return home.

Why?? It's not as if there isn't better food to be had. Doubtless, there are more preservatives and additives in there than actual potatoes. I have seen the movie Super Size Me and have heard tales of horror about the contents of the book Fast Food Nation (which I have not read for fear it might scare me forever away from my delicious-yet-occasional KFC treat). All of these items point to the fact that I should not, under almost all circumstances, eat these nasty things.

None of this matters. In my mind, sometimes, just sometimes, nothing tastes better.

No harm in having a little comfort food. Tapioca or KD are mine. Gotta have starch for the soul now and then. :-)

All I have to say is make your own! Use a food mixer to mash the cooked potatoes with lots of lovely dairy butter and salt and pepper. Fry up some onions and add a quick mix gravy ..... and then you will have wonderful mash and gravy with few chemicals.

Yum-yum :-)

PS. I don't think UK KFCs have mash and gravy :-(

Make mine potatoes of any kind. KFC, instant, frozen, hashed browned, frenched fried, curlied fried...

Sorry to go Forrest Gump on you.

Crack. They put crack in them thar taters.

My favorite homemade mashed taters recipe involves cream cheese. mmmmm. But no crack.

I heard they got their recipe from Alice B. Toklas. ;)

I enjoy(ed) the mashed potatoes from KFC as well!! They are so smooth and artificially tasty! ;) I wont eat "home-made" instant potatoes though. They are just not as delicious.

Truth be told, I love french fries. The fast food bad-for-you kind. Not that french fries exist that are actually GOOD for you. Anyway... I have a craving for them when I drive anywhere of any major distance - oh - say two hours or more. I must get them - size small (I used to get larges until the smalls became larges and the larges became super-duper larges - mediums are super-larges now). And a Mr. Pibb or Dr. Pepper. Or a rootbeer mixed with half diet coke. Not sure why. It just is.
