Back From Up North
So I am back now from my trip up to see The Conductor. As anticipated, it was a lovely visit: his new home has spectacular views and is very quiet and peaceful. We had a good dinner at his country/golf club (at which he is a new member) overlooking the bay and shared a nice bottle of Zinfandel and wonderful conversation. I do so enjoy having someone's undivided attention for more than 10 minutes.
So as I said, I'm home now and have decided to spend my Saturday simply being lazy. I have plenty of reading and homework to do for school, there is lots of work to be done freelance-wise for work, and Rennie needs her bath, but I just feel like I need some down time.
So I've spent the day reading (or, more accurately, listening to "Naked" by David Sedaris from Audible.com), doing the crossword puzzle, painting my nails, chatting with another friend on the telephone and napping. I have some blog-reading to catch up on and I'll probably do some knitting, too, before the evening is through. Pointless activities, most of them, and yet the combination of them have added up into a nice way to spend the day.
Rennie was glad to see me when I returned home, and I was equally happy to see her. It's amazing how much I miss her when I'm gone. And it was strange to be headed on a road trip - even a short one - and not have her in her crate in the backseat of the car. Dad said she spent most of the time I was gone sitting in the window watching for me to come back. The living room windows at my dad's house go from floor to ceiling, and Rennie likes to sit on the edge, staring out the windows, watching the world go by. Sometimes, when I come home, she is sitting there staring, and every time it prompts me to begin singing, "how much is that Rennie in the window, the one with the waggedy tail!?" When she realizes it's me, she goes running to the door and jumps up and down until I put down whatever I am carrying and rub her tummy. She is a spoiled dog, indeed.
And speaking of school, here's my design project for the week:

The assignment was to create a formal composition using only black and white forms. I'm frequently surprised by the breadth of designs that are offered each week by the students in my class. Obviously, no two are the same and it's interesting to be given the same assigment and see the wide range of what people come back with. We're heading into week 3 of school and no doubt I will have a design to share next week as well.

I don't suppose it will come as any surprise that I've altered that same song upon seeing Iz in the windows.

Nope, no surprise at all. I'd expect nothing less... :)
