A Little of This and a Little of That

So today has been a very busy, eventful day indeed.

Did you catch the Astros-Braves game? 18 innings, people. 18!! It was extraordinary. So much so that I went into my room and went to sleep.

But really, the only reason I did that was because I'd gotten up early this morning (and by "early" I mean 9 a.m. ;-) to go see my friend Roy run the Portland Marathon!! And also some other friends who I knew were running. But mostly Roy, because he showed up at mile almost-25 when I ran the marathon two years ago and it was SO SO SO nice to see a friendly face at that point in the race, when all I wanted to do was give up. This is the shot Roy took of me at about mile 25 back then. I was hurting. Roy looks just as goofy in the pictures I took of him, but since this is my blog and I don't have his permission to post them up here, I'm just going to tell you that HE was hurting too.

I ran with him and his girlfriend for a tenth of a mile or so and when I turned around to run back, I met my friends Mark and Eileen. I walk-talked with them a bit and then headed back to my car. Mark was hurting also... gosh it's like a pattern... The interesting thing is, seeing all those runners had zero affect on my wanting to run. I just kept thinking, "yeah, I remember being where they are now. It sucked...." and while it isn't quite as bad as all that, well... I just don't have any desire to get back out there and do some running.

Oh well... maybe this general malaise will pass and I'll feel like exercising again.

Upon arriving home, I did some schoolwork and watched part of the game and painted my nails and then ... then! I made dinner. I'd been dying to try the southern fried chicken recipe I'd found through Paul's blog (it's his first wife's recipe) and today I decided to tackle it. Well, the lovely thing about authentic southern fried chicken is that it uses lots and lots of oil that you heat up. And when you stick the chicken in it? Well, it gets all smoky in the kitchen. And I mean, smoke EVERYWHERE. Something tells me this shouldn't have happened, but the chicken turned out divine. Oh, and I also managed to burn my thumb and get grease all over the stove. It was really a spectactular mess. But, as I said, the chicken was really good and moist and yummy. I paired it with some garlic mashed potatoes and my dad and I were happy as little clams.

Anyway, Rennie got spooked by the smoke and is still in her crate 'hiding' rather than eating the chicken gizzards that I put in her bowl. And I'm about to get back to my school work: lots of reading and a design or two to try.

This is the one I did for last week's project:

The goal was to use equal amounts of black and white (only) and get the figure and background to fluctuate. I struggled with this one just a bit but overall I think mine turned out pretty well. This week's project involves overlapping circles and the like, which I'll post next week if I remember.

Oh, and for those of you who are interested, my dad's new album is almost done (it's, like, ----><---- close). I'm listening to the 'almost final' version as I write this and it's GOOD. Stay tuned and I'll let you all know when it's available on CDBaby.com!!

I did a very similar project at AI in Fort Lauderdale!
