Just who is this Rathnait, anyway?
Want to know the truth? The real truth? The WHOLE truth? Nothing but the truth?
Are you SURE?
Rathnait is my dog. Yes, really. Don't believe me?? Well, I'll prove it to you. Here is a picture of her from when she was just a wee doggy:
Isn't she cute?
Yes, of course she is.
Anyway, I had this blog a while back, on blogger. It was a happy blog. It was fun. I loved it. My family, who live on the opposite side of the country, loved it. But one day someone forwarded links from this wonderful, happy blog to a couple of my coworkers. The posts themselves were innocuous, but the insinuation made by the anonymous writer was that I'd said something 'unflattering' about my employer. Of course, this was a vicious, mean lie.
Sure, I'd posted about my frustrations living in a new city, about getting settled in a new job, and about my disappointments with same. But I'd never mentioned my employer by name or used full names for anyone I worked with.
But to be safe, I killed the blog. The entire thing. Took it down, got rid of everything and erased its existence. (It's interesting, though, what you learn about who's been reading when you do that. :)
So I created a new blog that was password protected. But I missed all the visits and comments from blog friends, strangers and various other people. So I started thinking about how I could have a new blog without givng up the MovableType functionality I'd come to love.
Eventually, I decided to register the Irish spelling of my dog's name for my domain. Yes, my domain is one that only select people in Ireland might be able to pronounce. It is pronounced "rennie" and actually has a number of meanings attributed to it, including:
- Little prosperous one
- Wealthy
- Charming
- Little graceful one
- Grace
- Prosperity
Rathnait was also, according to one Internet source I found, the patron saint of Kilkenny, the county from which my uncle's family hails. Obviously, it's a name that has depth and of which I'm exceedingly fond.
So that's Rathnait and why this site is called what it's called. The site does include some of my favorite posts from my previous blog, but by and large is its own entity. Do be aware that I have almost no intention of blogging as my dog. The Bachelor has managed to pull off blogging as his cat quite nicely, on occasion, but considering I am not nearly as clever as he, I likely won't attempt this. So you're stuck with me and the occasional picture of my pup...

Cool. I once purposely misspelled my email address, for a similiar reason.

Hopefully you'll stick around here a bit longer. It's hard to keep up with a bouncing Zee!

I'm glad you've comments set up for your profile because that is exactly what I want to do. What a story - I am so sorry to hear what some people do; but it was lovely to read about Rathnait, the word and how you pronounce it. That's something new I learned today :-)
In the past I have worked with 4-5 year olds in schools and we have all sorts of names so I was familiar with the name Siobhan and how it sounded and was spelt. A few weeks ago I was on the phone and had to take down the name of the caller... you guessed... and she was shocked that I was the first person who knew how to spell her name first time!
Anyway, I hope I come across the name Rathnait and will look out for it. And then I shall be an insufferable smart ar*e if I get that one right ;-)
BTW, Michele sent me!
